Guardrail Sizes & Requirements
- Height: Minimum 42 inches (1067 mm) vertical height from the parallel leading edge of the tread or seat board.
- Openings: Intermediate rails or vertical pickets must space less than 4 inches apart so a 4-inch sphere cannot pass through.
- Trigger for Use: Required by building codes (like IBC) whenever the deck or seating rise is more than 30 inches above the ground or floor.
